And maybe, just maybe, even someone who, gasp, plays defense might get consideration for an award ostensibly for the game's most outstanding player but which has never gone to a player who played exclusively on defense (Larry Kelley, Leon Hart and Charles Woodson all played both offense and defense). From 1925-46, and again in 1969, the annual Notre Dame-Army football game took place at Yankee Stadium, including the memorable win one for the Gipper match-up in 1928, and the 1946 contest which ended in a scoreless tie and featured four Heisman Trophy winners (Doc Blanchard, Glenn Davis, Johnny Lunacy and Leon Hart). Penn State has staked its claim to the linebacker; USC to the tailback; Nebraska to the offensive lineman; Miami to the defensive tackle; and for four decades, to the tight end (or you could go back to the 40s and reasonably add Heisman Trophy winner Leon Hart).
