It was nearly a century ago, in 1913, that a 20-year-old amateur from Brookline named Francis Ouimet outplayed the best golfers of the day to win the first U.S. Open held at The Country Club. Tierney said there was some discussion about bringing the U.S. Open to The Country Club in 2013 to mark the 100th anniversary of the Ouimet victory, but the idea was eventually dropped.
